World Health Organisation (WHO) defines that, health is not merely absent of diseases but it is physically and mentally well-being.
Do you know all human being have favoritism? We always treat ourselves differently and unfairly! Yes, the mental health and the physical health. This favoritism, we show the body over the mind. Recently, I went to a friend’s house and their six-year-old boy was playing at the playground. He was running around and slipped and scratched his leg on the ground when he fell. He cried for a minute, but then he got back up, got back to the house, and reached out for a box of Band-Aids to put one on his cut. Can you see, this boy could barely tie his shoelaces, but he knew you had to cover a cut so it does not become infected. Everyone knows we need to care for our teeth by brushing twice a day.
We all know how to maintain our physical health and how to practice dental hygiene. We have known it since we were five years old. However, ask yourselves, what do you know about maintaining our psychological health? Think, what do you teach our children about emotional hygiene?
Human spend more time taking care of our teeth than do our minds? Why is it that our physical health is so much more important than us than our psychological health? We sustain psychological injuries, even more often than we do physical ones, injuries like failure, rejection, loneliness, fear and they can also get worse if we ignore them and they can impact our lives in dramatic ways such as depression and even suicidal.
Even though there are scientifically proven techniques we could use to treat these kinds of psychological injuries. Unfortunately, most of the human choose to ignore it or they feel it is not a need to take any attention to this psychological injury.
“Oh, you are feeling depressed?” Just shake it off; it is all in your head. Can you imagine saying that to a person who has broken his leg? “Oh, just walk it off; it is all in your leg.” That is the time we closed the gap between our physical health and psychological health. It is time for us to make it more equal.
