What if you can get back on track easily after MCO?
Most companies especially small and medium enterprise will face uphill battle to kick back their businesses after MCO period. Nearly 90% companies have stop functioning during MCO which impact on cash flow and chain reaction of sustainability. Much worse government have warn that business owner are not allowed to sack people during MCO and need to pay employee salary even though they are staying at home to wait for MCO to end. So what will employer do next? How will they survive and can they survive the next six month with the loss of income during MCO period? Here I will give three initial steps that can be done to kick start your business into the market.
Firstly, get the business going. Open up your office and get the market updates. Are the demands are there. Do the market still needs your products or has it been absolute? Business owners need to know these facts first before they can plan their next move. Are the products or service still meeting the market needs and want? Or, do the products and services need to be change according to the market moods before it get back to normal. Here if where the agility will play a crucial part of the business model of employer. The more agile a businesses are, the better it is in adapting into the market needs.
Next, is to get the employee trust into the business. Employee needs to know that the business are ready to rock the market. Employee need to hear and see the vision of their boss after MCO ended. They need the encouragement, they need the motivation and they need assurance of direction. Panic mood, defensive leadership and negative feedbacks will only create bad reputation on business owner in long term. The cheapest steps is a townhall to acknowledge all the employee on what’s next for the business and will they still employed or lay off. The best is actually a structural program teambuilding to align, adapt and motivate employee to help the business grow. This will not only shows leadership vision, it will also show how much business owner care about their employees. The faster and most effective way in short and medium term is doing a mass teambuilding program for the employees.
Last but not least is grow the business. There are no other way but start to plan on scaling up. Plan for the future. Have a big vision and know the end result of each plan to show how serious a boss in making the company grow. Diversify the products, upskills and start to improve on the working environment. It does not mean investing on things but investing on time to upskills, empowerment and engagement. The change from top down approach will help business owner to sustain their business and grow into another level.
